OutandaboutinKulgera
Travelled along the Stuart Highway, northbound at a leisurely pace, destination today Kulgera. Crossed over the NT/SA border with the usual photo opportunity. Vast open plains again today, with an occasional mountain in the distance. Surprisingly the vegetation has continued most of the day, so is this a result of good seasonal rains or is it usual?
Rolled into Kulgera at a respectable time around 4 pm. Not much setting up today. Electricity, but no water. All good, had fivsies and then onto the Kulgera Pub for happy hour. The rustic charming eccentric pub is the first and last pub in the Northern Territory. Lots of abandoned hats, sunglasses and even a pair of cottontails hanging from the roof. We had a great fun filled night, our own Kathy became a stand in barmaid for a spot, did a great job. Jukebox was pretty popular with the campers, although Neil’s choice of song ( Lady Antebellum , Need you tonight, was too gay apparently and quickly vetoed.) HA Ha too funny, so it was Creedence, Kris Kristoffersen, Slim Dusty rockin’ on. We stayed on at the fireplace chit chatting with a young couple who amped up the music choices a bit more to our taste ?.
Today we are hitting the wallaby on the way outandabouttoUluru. We plan a stop over somewhere today as Yulara is booked out til tmrw. Life is good
Today we have travelled thru Erldunda, fueled up and turned left onto Lasseter Highway headed for Mt Ebenezer and finally Curtain Springs for the night. Mount Conner in the distance tricked us until Neil noted it was not the shape of Uluru. Still, the color throughout the day has been beautiful, changing with the Suns passage. Tonight we are free camped at the Curtin Springs Camp/Station. Big flat area of red dust, maybe 40 caravans/camper trailers in total. $3 honor system for hot showers. Lots of small campfires here tonight, alas we have not collected any firewood.
