Ochre Pits

imageThe Ochre Pits are on the Larapinta Road, today thankfully, a dry rocky creek bed with towering walls of beautiful ochre in colors ranging from Crimson to gold. The ochre was traditionally used by Aboriginals in ceremonies and played an important role in the continent’s economy being traded with neighbouring clans and “countries”and only certain men were qualified to collect the ochre. After the ochre was mined , it was ground and mixed with Emu fat for ceremonial body adornment. So amazing to see this, life is good.
